Engaged Employer

It depends on where you are in the lab - Research Technologist The Jackson Laboratory Employee Review

Pros

My lab is friendly, the work is important, my management is understanding, flexible, decent benefits.

Cons

If you are in animal care your day is awful. Poor management, overworked, lack of appreciation, not flexible, unsympathetic management. As for the lab, it's changed since the Ed Liu stepped down. It feels as though the new CEO is treating this more as a business opportunity then a research facility. Many areas could use improvement some like tgs have broken machines all the time yet a redundant new entrance to the parking lot was added, the CEO had his hallway remodeled. While the lounge area in the park is much better not many people use it and there are many things those funds could've been used for that were more practical. In the past we usually recieve a holiday bonus as sort of a appreciation as well as a day off. We got nothing this year, personally a day off would've been fine but not even that. The new CEO seems to care far less for his employees then the previous one. I hope he changes and understands that his money is made on the backs of everyone beneath him. Without us he has nothing.

Pros

Good pay and benefits are decent

Cons

Long commutes with tight time accountability due to newer rules. No more leniency for weather or traffic related tardiness that is common in Maine. Constantly changing rules and expectations are making the job impossible. Failure to meet new expectations lead to no finishes or raises or tuition reimbursement. Forced overtime in Ellsworth location with so.e employees being sent from Bar Harbor to cover. Seems like a sinking ship and I would not recommend anyone I liked for a job here.
