Pros
The work itself is wonderful.
Remote work is generally allowed and sometimes pushed.
A lot of paid time off if you are allowed to take it.
Just unionized, so maybe that'll make it better.
Cons
Pay is lower than industry standard, even for a non-profit.
Internal pay inequity.
No real Human Resource department and poor communication of benefits eligibility. Frequent errors in benefit sign up and execution to the employee's detriment.
Top heavy organization with lots of supervising and management positions, yet little room for growth.
Some people can use all of their PTO, other people cannot take all the PTO responsibly and still fulfill their essential job functions. No guaranteed rollover or payout for unused PTO, management may grant PTO rollover in extreme circumstances but you have to use it by March of the next year.
Expensive health insurance that does not provide good coverage.
Not a lot of room for growth and upward mobility.
