Good working environment, opportunity for growth - Chemist I The Ohio State University Employee Review

Pros

There is a lot of room for promotion and taking on more responsibilities. Upper management is generally supportive of projects to increase organization and efficiency, and staff members are given a free hand to pursue such projects. Pleasant and cooperative coworkers and little in-fighting.

Cons

Working within the academic bureaucracy can be challenging, and rules and procedures seemingly change without notice. The unwritten staff "tenure" policy can make it challenging to get rid of seriously underperforming staff members, making more responsible employees pick up the slack.

Pros

Many resources available for various types of studies

Cons

Unless your PI is tapped into the research community, the resources are spread out and difficult to find. The overall support from the University to PIs is limited. Those individuals in positions of authority are more concerned with their own optics than with supporting those who need it.
