Pros
The health insurance is decent. Retirement is good. Certain departments offer flexibility and autonomy. Campus is a beautiful place to work.
Cons
Parking costs are astronomical, particularly when you barely bring enough money home to cover your housing costs. One would argue to park on the street or West Campus; who realistically has time for that when they commute? Raises are either not existent, or so small that you quite literally bring home nothing additional in take home pay. What's the point of yearly reviews if staff don't even receive a meager 1-2-or goodness forbid, 3% raise? Staff who do the same job, with the same position and job title in different units across campus can make 10-15k more a year just for being in a different unit. This is highly unfair and impacts motivation and morale.
