Pros
Easy to get time off. No culture of micromanagement. Good team aspect.
Cons
Promotion from within is non existant, expect to see management positions filled with friends and ex coworkers of existing managers that are outside hires. Annual raises are pathetic, less than 3% while directors and above get large annual bonuses to skirt around that rule. Money is extremely tight, expect to get pushback even for the most minor of work expenses. Culture is extremely toxic, you see many instances of employees treating coworkers with ridiculous amounts of disrespect with no correction from management. Poor employees are allowed to continue with bad habits, management does not take the time to correct employee behavior. From inappropriateness to outright terrible work ethics, employees are allowed to just keep their terrible behavior going without punishment as management is unwilling to take the time and effort needed to go through the paperwork. This causes good employees to get burnt out and leave, which leads to a condensing of bad employees over time. Nobody wants to change. Building on how hard it is to get reprimanded here or fired, everyone just wants to cruise to their OPERS retirement and do the minimum. If you are someone who wants to see the best possible of your work environment and coworkers, you won't see it here.
