Vertical stratification is not great (they don't tell you, but you only get a 1% raise every year). You're better off joining a school district directly after 3 years in the field so that you can get cheaper benefits and paid maternity leave. You also need to pay a chunk of change for medical benefits if you choose a plan that has a lower deductible. They do not match your 401k if you don't work corporate and they do not provide paid maternity leave.
