Pros

Got to do what I was trained to do. Money was decent. But as more and more layoffs occurred, it went from bad to worse.

Cons

Publisher does not know how to hire quality leaders. The ones she's chosen have all flamed out. Meanwhile, some really smart, effective people who have been there awhile get overlooked. But that's the Gannett way, isn't it?

Pros

Do to Gannett cutting local journalism as much as it possibly can, the newsroom was stretched thin, meaning I got to do impressive assignments that should have gone to more senior staff if such existed. The Tennessean is the best newspaper in Nashville and will propel you to better future gigs. Use this as a stepping stone.

Cons

The pay is insulting and you will be overworked.
