Pros

Working with customers is great! I learned a lot about tile design and installation; beautiful showroom and nice products; decent benefits.

Cons

Their structure is set so everyone looks out for themselves from the top town. The managers are expected to work ridiculous hours with constant demands and stress placed upon them. My manager got fired after doing an incredible job for the first 8 months of the store. Politics was the reason - not work ethic or success because he was awesome. Upper management stated the large employee turnover rate was the biggest reason when every store in the company has the same turnover rate. The turnover rate isn't because of any particular manager but rather because very few sales staff can afford to stay on while they attempt to reach the point where they can. I started out with a 20% commission rate which was great but went down to 13% after one year. I was the top producer for the store and in the 11 months of being there I still only grossed about $40,000. The assistant managers are asked to work horrible hours, stock tile and train employees and still meet sales goals for the year. You have to constantly watch your back as less than qualified and ethical employees are hired who will steal your jobs from beneath you whenever they have the chance. The new manager hired was unethical, closed a very large job of mine in a dishonest way and then had it in for me because I confronted the issue for the protection of my client. It got to the point where working with him was so miserable along with the reduction in commission that I quit. The individual stores can only be as good as the managers and employees they hire. This job works well for someone freshly out of college or design school wishing to get experience under their belt, or someone who doesn't need a steady income. You cannot easily secure builders/designers of your own as other sales staff will grab them when they walk into the showroom if you're not there. I do not wish it upon my worse enemy! Oh, and did I mention the constant cleaning?!!!

Pros

There's a system to follow and it's an open ceiling to how much you can make.

Cons

The only con I came across over the years, is candidates lying on their resume's and wasn't willing to be coachable because they thought they knew everything.

Pros

Some of the floor staff are great people to work with.

Cons

The core issue here is a management culture that has completely decayed. It is an "old school" environment in the worst way possible—rigid, out of touch, and fueled by greed. There are blatant double standards where leadership expects total flexibility and "hustle" from staff, but offers zero support or fair treatment in return. The focus is entirely on the bottom line at the expense of employee morale. It feels like the company is stuck in a bygone era, refusing to modernize its approach to work-life balance or fair compensation. Career growth feels stagnant unless you fit into their specific "inner circle."
