Pros
Opportunity to work on landmark projects and contribute in a rewarding and meaningful way. Family owned feel while providing opportunities for non-family members to ascend to leadership positions. Safety focus. Health insurance is a “Cadillac plan” almost entirely paid by the company. Very technically talented and loyal workforce.
Cons
Total compensation package is low for demanding key middle management positions. Starting salaries are competitive. Leadership positions compensation with bonuses is potentially very high and disproportionate to rank and file employees. There are more talented people at Walsh than can ascend to these positions. Project manager positions are demanding positions requiring long hours, heavy financial responsibly and travel or hefty commutes. Walsh truly lets their project managers operate projects as their own small companies which is rewarding but the demands at these positions are much higher than competitors with this same title. The pay is proportionally low for these demands. Raises for loyal employees have not kept up with inflation/post COVID inflation has not been substantially recognized by the company. 401k offerings are average to below market (4% match). Bonuses are hit or miss depending on assigned project and current company financials.
