Pros

I was able to build some lifelong friendships from the members who came to the Y

Cons

The YMCA corporate structure is set up to be extremely top heavy, even for failing Y's that previously entered bankruptcy. Hours are long, budget is low to work with, and there isn't enough staff or resources at the branch level. There were reorganizations taking place regularly. Always needing to spend money out of my own pocket so programs and events could succeed. Being asked to donate a portion of my paycheck to the annual campaign made it very difficult to earn a living.

Pros

Excellent opportunities to connect with folks from different backgrounds, communities, etc. Wonderful opportunities to learn, and continue to learn important skills such life saving skills. Opportunities to help people in the community. Lasting impact on people for a lifetime

Cons

Inconsistency, favoritism, constant change no one can keep up with, no empathy, no respect, no communication, toxic work environment, enabling the behavior of others while requiring regular trainings on work place harassment and actions that don’t match the company mission of healthy mind body and spirit.
