Pros
Thermo Fisher is an industry leader in serving science with great missions and good products. Since the pandemic started, the company has been on the frontline of fighting against COVID by producing COVID test kits and supporting vaccine production. It’s a meaningful initiative and it has also been bringing substantial financial growth for the company. It’s a huge global organization with lots of career potentials to explore. The corporate culture is nice overall.
Cons
The Finance department in Carlsbad has high turnover rate due to burnout, unstable reporting structure and below-than-industry pay. Systems are in disarray and many processes are not well-defined. Re-organizations are constant. The company is taking initiatives on addressing Diversity, and there are some amazing female leaders that I enjoyed working with. However, it’s still overall a “white male club” on the top and as a Asian woman, I felt exhausted of competing with colleagues who are not under-represented and who are from FLDP. If you know how to find a way to get into the inner circle, you will get lots of great projects and great promotion opportunities; but if you are not, it’s gonna be hard to climb up.
