Flexibility for the Independent Teacher - Teacher Tilden Preparatory Employee Review

Pros

I had the flexibility to create course and class content fit the needs of a diverse array of students facing a variety of learning challenges from dyslexia to recovery from drug addiction. The result was the ability of many students succeeding to reach high standards, returning to various high-achieving private schools, and entering college. Good colleagues and support from management whenever I had a concern.

Cons

There were a fair number of incidents of poor behavior from rather entitled students who should have been expelled sooner rather than later. But such is the case in any environment where children of the wealthy know there is no rock bottom they can hit.

Pros

Amazing co-workers, admin who cares, and lots of resources. 1:1 instruction has lots of benefits for the student and is fun and challenging for the instructor.

Cons

There are a few cons I can think of some teachers like flexible hours but this is also a nice perk when you have other projects you are working on or are tutoring in the evening like I am.

Pros

Lots of different teaching assignments. Breadth of material keeps it interesting. Almost all students are easy to work with and real teaching. Good way to get into teaching without a credential.

Cons

Pay rate is low. Not as many holidays as regular teachers. Must work summer to make an OK income.
