Pros

Tillster appears to pay somewhat above-market salaries, even for people who don't have the qualifications for the job. So, if you're a poor performer looking for a salary bump, this is the place for you!

Cons

Tillster is a toxic company. Don’t work for them. Don’t work with them. As the saying goes, the fish starts rotting from the head down, and Tillster serves as a perfect example for this proverb. It all starts with the CEO, who lacks all the basic skills for running a technology company, but stubbornly refuses to let more competent leaders help out or take over. Next in line are other C-level and Senior VP cronies of her, who are all equally incapable of running their respective departments. Most notably, the department of human resources weaves a toxic thread through the entire organization by attempting to run the company like an assembly-line factory that requires only untrained workers that can easily be replaced. There is no appreciation for the knowledge that each employee brings to the company (and, conversely, takes away when they leave). Especially for engineering positions, they do not understand that productivity can vary by an order of magnitude between good and bad engineers, and that the worst employees can even have a negative impact by consuming productivity of others. As a result of the “leadership” from the HR department, gross incompetence is rampant in all areas of the company, and daily office life is often indistinguishable from a Dilbert comic. Indeed, you can readily observe the Peter Principle, Parkinson’s Law, the Dunning-Kruger Effect and many other symptoms of corporate dysfunction on an everyday basis. Needless to say, goals are not clearly communicated, deadlines are never met, and a lot of time and money is wasted by either not doing things right or not doing the right things. Even the overall business model is questionable at best. In a domain where profits are measured in pennies per order, Tillster tries to make money despite monthly AWS bills that easily exceed a software engineer’s annual salary. With future profitability being utterly unlikely, the most reasonable explanation for the continued existence of the company is its exclusive purpose of providing daily entertainment for the CEO and her friends.
