Pros

The people here are really nice.

Cons

The entire codebase is a shitstorm, fixing one thing breaks another and the management doesn't seem to care. Everything is outdated and barely works. I don't know how people are entrusting their business with this fragile product.

Thank you for this candid feedback. I am sorry you feel like your work is just doing fixes and that it seems to you that your managers don’t care. I can assure you that we care deeply about the quality of our codebase and the experience of the people working on it. As with any large scale enterprise solutions there are always opportunities for code simplification. Our latest innovations with Android moduralisations, microservice and s.p.a. have delivered first-rate codebase solutions and a focus of our group code pairing sessions is to give all engineers the skills to adopt these technologies as part of their routine. I'd really like to get your insights on how we can further accelerate simplification of our codebase. You can engage on this topic anonymously via OfficeVibe or you can reach me or any other R&D leader in Dublin or Boston office via the usual means. - Robert McGarry, VP Engineering

Pros

The benefits and health insurance are amazing and the company culture as a whole is very positive. It was a pleasure to work with almost everyone I met in my time there.

Cons

Lower management, especially for care teams, deeply lacks integrity. Retaliatory practices, lack of communication, and failure to adhere to their own policies are very common behavior depending on who your manager is. The inconsistencies across what is expected from leadership are profound and it is disappointing how much this can derail your career trajectory at Toast. It’s also very difficult to help customers at times, as Toast is notorious for launching new products at customers and providing little to no support to agents that are then expected to troubleshoot using sparse or nonexistent resources and absolutely no training. Cross-collaboration with teams that occasionally intersect is also very challenging, particularly Sales/Onboarding and Care. There were many instances where sales and onboarding specialists set customers up with false expectations of the product, which leaves care teams to deal with the aftermath.
