Pros

Leadership does an okay job of being transparent about changes to the system and integration enhancements. They have a sales enablement team that you can work with on projects or just Q/A with. Sales training is focused on the Challenger model and leadership reinforces those ideas during discussions about opportunities. The org uses SalesForce to manage the entire sales process which is helpful.

Cons

When you work for Toast you essentially are selling credit card processing. Toast generates the majority of its revenue from the credit card processing fees it charges customers. AS A REP YOU CAN'T SELL AN ACCOUNT WITHOUT HAVING THEM USE TOAST FOR CREDIT CARD PROCESSING. This is a fact that wasn't made clear during the recruiting process. While you make some money on the margins of cc processing you don't make residual revenue for the sales you make. You just get paid one time for accounts sold. Also, leadership promotes people very quickly. They have several folks with no leadership skills or experience in management positions simply because they had a couple good sales quarters. Also the customer base is very SMB. If you are a rep that is used to working with a more sophisticated buyer, the majority of the time, that will not be the case when working an opportunity.

Pros

The benefits and health insurance are amazing and the company culture as a whole is very positive. It was a pleasure to work with almost everyone I met in my time there.

Cons

Lower management, especially for care teams, deeply lacks integrity. Retaliatory practices, lack of communication, and failure to adhere to their own policies are very common behavior depending on who your manager is. The inconsistencies across what is expected from leadership are profound and it is disappointing how much this can derail your career trajectory at Toast. It’s also very difficult to help customers at times, as Toast is notorious for launching new products at customers and providing little to no support to agents that are then expected to troubleshoot using sparse or nonexistent resources and absolutely no training. Cross-collaboration with teams that occasionally intersect is also very challenging, particularly Sales/Onboarding and Care. There were many instances where sales and onboarding specialists set customers up with false expectations of the product, which leaves care teams to deal with the aftermath.
