Completely overworked with more and more work assigned as the role continued. The better I performed, the more I was rewarded with additional projects. I left this job primarily due to health related stress (the kind that wakes you up in the middle of the night.) While hefty criticism was received regularly, I was only given any positive feedback twice in nearly a year of working there. Favoritism was rampant, with employees encouraged to acknowledge each other with a points-based system that reminds one of a high school popularity contest. Meetings were frequent and often pointless, with no clear agenda. Toast is full of individuals who love to hear themselves talk. Working a 10-12 hour day was not uncommon. The icing on the cake was backstabbing from a coworker who complained about something unrelated to my job description to my boss, who handled it immaturely and didn't vouch for me in any way. The best decision I've made for my career was leaving Toast before the recession and getting a much higher pay raise with an established company.
