Pros

Experience, Experience, Experience, Culture, Benefits I've been at Topographic almost 2 years. I enjoy everyone I work with; there's no toxic employees here. The day-to-day tasks are varied enough to where it’s not boring and there's plenty of work to be done. You don't just "show up" here. There's always a new skill you can add to your tool belt. We are given every tool at our disposal to complete any task. The tools provide excellent experience and the more tenured employees are more than willing to help learn. Everything we use is the most up-to-date software, and we have access to every software imaginable you would want to use in GIS. I've been in the field over 15 years and nowhere I've worked comes close to providing the array of tools at our disposal. Continuing education is encouraged, and the company will pay for it if that is what you desire. Great management. All very experienced either here or from where they came from. We frequently have social get-togethers and everyone enjoys the time together from the CEO to someone like me. The benefits are good, PTO, health, 401K, the whole 9 yards. If given the opportunity, I strongly recommend working here.

Cons

If I didn't have to work, I wouldn't. It might as well be here.

Pros

Salary is fair. Admin staff is kind, knowledgeable, driven, and supportive of junior staff. Lots of opportunity for growth and additional education.

Cons

The divisions are very siloed that can make cooperation between divisions difficult - sometimes.

Pros

Pay is decent, and the benefits (like vacation time) are solid.

Cons

I’ve been with the company for a while, and I've seen a lot, both the good and the bad. There’s some discrimination, a mix of forgiveness, and the usual ups and downs you’d expect in this industry. It’s not a place for everyone, especially if you don’t have "thick skin." First off, unless you’re buddies with the right people or play by certain unspoken rules, you’re probably going to become a target. This is well-known and tolerated. That said, if you do your job well, you can stick around and earn bonuses. But don’t expect to build a long-term career here, the mentorship they claim to offer isn’t really there. It’s also pretty common for senior management to take credit for the hard work employees put in. When discrimination or nasty comments happen, they’re often swept under the rug. However, you’ll likely feel small at some point, or at least like you’re just another cog in the machine. If you’re someone who can put personal beliefs aside, and just show up to work for the paycheck, this place might work for you.
