Pros

Supportive management Excellent peer groups Opportunities to volunteer in community Supports innovation Above average pay and benefits 20 days PTO and insurance coverage from day 1 Opportunities to move across lines Opportunities for annual raises and bonuses Employee recognition

Cons

Chaotic when there's a downturn in the economy Pushing new tools which need better vetting/understanding prior to widespread rollout Say that they will promote from within but this is rarely seen; instead they shuffle managers from spot to spot because of organizational overstaffing and lack of foresight All complaints are the same for any corporate location and in fact, are minimal at Travelers when compared with other well-known established corporations, so if corporate is what you want, this is about the best there is

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
