Pros

Travelers has an extremely collaborative culture and is committed to their employees and policyholders. The company genuinely cares about its employees and their development/growth. There is a wide variety of internship opportunities, as well as jobs in Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Technology, Human Resources, Risk Control, Underwriting, Claim, Government & Regulatory Affairs, Operations and Actuarial. Travelers embraces innovation, supports and encourages employee volunteerism in local communities, and is an extremely generous company, donating millions of dollars to hundreds of charities. Travelers has always been very disciplined when it comes to underwriting, which has contributed to their financial strength and the company's longevity. The company's underwriting expertise, commitment to do what is right and breadth of resources is no match for other insurance carriers.

Cons

Not many I can think of.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
