Pros

Competitive pay and benefits. Flexible schedule.

Cons

They give you more work if you are successful at your position, and for those that are not successful, they get a pass and you have to pick up their slack. If you divided the amount of hours by the amount you’re paid you’d be making minimum wage. They are quick to criticize you and point out your mistakes, but rarely, if ever, give any sort of praise. They feel that compensation alone should be enough to make you happy. They are promoting minorities and females over white males who have more experience, more training and better personnel reviews. This, unfortunately, has become the culture and they’ve lost a lot of good people because of it. Management is inept, inexperienced and afraid to make decisions. The culture is so toxic that if you had two years in your position, you were one of the senior employees. I just can’t warn people enough to steer far away from this place.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
