Pros

- Co-workers, most unit managers

Cons

- Management above UM's. Not all but most. - Good luck getting time off approved if you didn't ask a year in advance. - No consistency across different departments or even the same department in a different area. There is the Travelers way, the legal way, the sectional manager's way, and so on. - Slow to adapt to change in tech/claim handling in general. Most "changes" are made from taking ideas other carriers use from the employees poached by TRV - Low pay, low raises (if any), little to no bonus - Very clear this company is publicly traded. Was expecting some differences but not this bad. Red tape on red tape over red tape. - Upper management very shady and abrasive should there be any issues that come up regarding work conditions, employee health, or anything that you would hope your employer cares about. ** - If you are considering leaving another insurance carrier to work for TRV, I can assure you the grass is not greener. **

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
