Pros

In the unlikely event you end up being one of your manager's favorites you will be required to do very little work and will always get excellent reviews and maximum raises and bonuses. You will also be promoted over people with more experience and who are more deserving but who aren't with the in crowd. You will be working with a lot of very nice hardworking people who really what to do their best and who will never be treated fairly. The benefits are decent and the amount of vacation time is pretty good.

Cons

f you are not one of the manager's favorites your work will be scrutinized so your manager can justify giving you minimal if any raise or no bonus. management spends most of its time justifying the preferential treatment they give a select few employees. If you are over 40 forget about any advancement in this company. you will never be invited to any company activities that lead to advancement in the company. More than likely a 20 something who knows nothing will be promoted to a management position and will spend most of his or her time giving you "constructive criticism" and making your life miserable until you leave without any severance pay.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
