Pros

Fair pay, PTO and stability

Cons

Forced everyone to come back to office 3 days per week despite amazing performance last year when all remote. Only real reason leadership can articulate is to preserve our “pixie dust” culture. If you look at the job postings almost all new jobs are open to remote but the people who have been here and contributed to success are forced to come in. #whatpixiedustcosts 6 hours a week away from my children so I can commute. Please please please consider if you’re willing to give up 40 minutes (20 min each way) of your day to parking garage madness (that they will charge you for!!!) and a lengthy walk before taking a job here. We all spend hours just complaining about it, it really takes a toll on you. The Hartford has free parking and better pay. 9 hours of water cooler chat this past week - - people showing up at your desk, walks to meetings, etc. so much sitting around and complaining. They want to take more money from you with constant updates to cafes and expect us to keep Hartfords economy afloat while even state workers get to work from home. Also always asking for us to contribute to fundraisers but don’t give raises that match inflation. I don’t even want to calculate how much it costs me in gas and parking. And we get to contribute to pollution!

Opportunities to grow with many career path options; great benefits; work-life balance; collaborative culture

Cons

Even with a couple of roles that were not a great fit, those "cons" were beneficial to my growth and knowledge of the business, positioning me for other opportunities

Pros

Everyone I work with here is great - friendly, dedicated, hard working, professional, but also fun. The company is very aware that their employees are people. They encourage us to use our time off. We have mindfulness trainings. Our medical plan includes things like 8 free therapy sessions and free visits with a lawyer for consults. Also, I genuinely get the sense that Travelers is a good company. We are encouraged to volunteer. When we do, they award us $20 for every hour of community service worked, and that money can be used to donate a charity of our choice. Then, Travelers will match the money that they already gave us. The leadership is working to be zero emissions by 2030 and I believe they will do. It's a great place to work. There are so many different business units, departments, and offices in this company that if your role isn't fulfilling you can probably find another position that will be a good fit. You are also likely to find another office in the country if you have to (or want to) move. The company is very open to people finding the right place for them.

Cons

Everyone has a very full plate. It's not an insurmountable amount of work but it will keep you very busy. We also require at least 3 days per week in office in my region, but honestly, it's nice to back in an office with people. You will likely pay more for benefits here but they have different plans depending on what you're looking for.
