Pros
Working in the school, you become like family with your fellow co-workers. This is so nice in a field where the work can be draining. You typically have quality, constant support (but that can depend on what classroom you are put in and what learners you are working with). You have the opportunity to work with people of different disciplines - Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Music Therapists, Special Educators, and BCBAs. The learners really grab a hold of your heart and there is a variety of events and time out in the community that you get to share with them, not just the classroom setting.
Cons
HR and Payroll Departments are horrible. Pretty much if it's somebody working outside of the people you see every day - they don't care about you. They ask a lot of those who work in the school but do very little in terms of communication, transparency, and action. Trellis is mostly great but LEARN Behavioral (the parent company) has expanded too fast and has forgotten the importance of relationships with those who invest all of their time and energy into the learners.
