Pros

I make about 110,000 / year working an avg of 44 hrs / week (top of the pay scale with due to many yrs exp) This includes a couple of different bonuses for jumping through a few small hoops. I avoid any managerial type position - keep work at work - and not responsible for managing anyone but myself. Fun place to work, ok to goof off when were not busy but not uncommon to work 12 hrs without an official lunch break (but we NEVER go hungry) plenty of grazing zones and most of us bring in food to share. 5000 / yr for education. Management mostly laid back but fairly black and white. Speaking of which - we are fairly diverse group - especially as compared to B North (our other ED). Good nurse to pt ratio - usually I have 2 maybe 3 patients at a time. Most hospitals are 4:1 and up.

Cons

For some reason we are having high turnover - especially with new hires. Can't take things too seriously if you want to fit in. Gotta be a little bit tough and let things roll off. See a lot of psych pts and heroin overdoses - things can get a little bit rough - but I never really feel like I'm in danger.

Pros

Time and a half call pay when you're on call and get called in. Frequent Incentives and hourly incentives for specialty units.

Cons

Managers have favorites and enable them to continue unsafe performance. Certain employees are held to rules relating to tardiness and absences, others are not. Maternity leave (short term disability) is not great
