Pros

Flexibility Independence Supportive team School based work is tough but rewarding Exposure to a wide variety of different clinical situations Access to a ton of resources Collaborations with a lot of different community supports/agencies Great healthcare

Cons

It's agency work, so despite being independent as a school-based therapist there are sometimes extra trainings or paperwork expectations that we have to do for insurance or accreditation requirements. You also have to speak up to make your voice heard if you have a thought/issue, but there are good people who do listen. They're trauma informed in relation to not only the clients, but the organization as a whole and try to leave pathways for information and communication to travel effectively.

Pros

There really weren’t many. I met some people involved in the same field of study as me.

Cons

Unsafe conditions for both staff and residents. The wage offered was insulting compared to the work we were asked to do (basically performing caretaker duties for suicidal and homicidal teens). My training was cut short due to a scheduling mishap and when I asked if I’d receive makeup training sessions I was told, “You’ll be fine” (I was NOT “fine,” nor were the children under my care).
