Pros

M-F, 8-5, teleworking available. Decent benefits.

Cons

Political, low pay/low raises even when rated "outstanding." Legislators reviewing retirement pension plans (currently defined benefit) - results due 1/2019. Pay close attention, incentive to work for state will be gone if defined benefit removed, considering pay is 20% less or more than private sector and raises hard to come by and often 2%, if that, for outstanding work.

Pros

Good health insurance, vacation and sick leave! No mandatory overtime

Cons

Hired remote before Covid and this agency ended all telework even though other state agencies kept it! Doing the work of 3 people but pay for 1 …building outdated (except for HQ in Austin), lack of modern software but PeopleSoft gets the job done, High mandatory pension deductions right at 9.5% big hit to paycheck! Getting paid once a month big adjustment. Ending telework really limits their talent pool around the state of Texas now must live in Austin if you want access to the majority of good jobs.
