Pros

Good, responsive H.R. department, which is not the case at many law firms Decent salary Good benefits Remote options Educational development and training opportunities Team-based approach (but, see below) Interesting cases and opportunities to make an impact

Cons

The two people above me who acted as my direct "supervisors" seemed to have an inappropriate dynamic with each other, as if there was more of a personal/romantic relationship there. This impacted me because it felt as if they were gossiping about me with eachother when I wasn't around; or otherwise favoring the company of eachother at the exclusion of other team members. It was covertly toxic. These two individuals didn't seem to want to have team meetings with me. They also wouldn't attend the team leader's meetings, which spoke volumes about the overall toxic dynamic. I felt bad for the team leader, frankly, because the supervisors who were put in charge were running that entire practice group into the ground. There was also a less experienced associate with great talent who desperately needed guidance and assistance, but the supervisors were MIA. Given the recent attorney shortage, the cases that were assigned to me were in pretty bad shape. I was trying to correct course on one of the cases, but my supervisors kept assigning more cases to me that were equally in bad shape. It was dysfunctional and not sustainable from my perspective. I cannot speak for Tyson & Mendes as a whole because there are probably great teams with responsible leadership that foster a great professional environment. Make sure you ask the right questions and interview with multiple teams to find the best personality fit that makes you comfortable. There were red flags during the initial interview that I chose to disregard because the nature of the work seemed so interesting. But it doesn't matter how interesting the work is when you have people who are seemingly working against you rather than with you.
