Pros

If you want the classic IB experience, UBS is a good place to do it. It’s not the very top of the league tables, but in general there’s a lot of M&A and financing activity. I would say that compared to what I’ve heard about other banks, UBS is also pretty relaxed and less formal than other places on Wall Street. Depending on your group I guess your experience might be more intense and serious, but I would say the culture across the bank is pretty positive. Banking in general is a lot of work, but if you know what you’re getting into and still want to do it, UBS is a good place to get the experience you need when entering the finance world.

Cons

Junior people turn over quickly, so it can feel at times that senior leadership doesn’t invest in the development of analysts. Also within groups senior people/staffers play favorites and give all of the best projects to their favorite analysts. Additionally, oftentimes hard work from the junior bankers goes unrecognized. Don’t get a lot of “thank you’s” from the people that I spend 75+ hours per week doing work for.
