Pros
Fun work environment. Profs treat their students like people not laborers. All profs are friendly. Wide variety of research projects because the department is joint with materials science. Stipend is plenty if you are smart.
Cons
Old building and many student offices don't have windows. Not convenient to many industries if you have spouse in tech job. Depend insurance coverage is poor.
