Pros

The career center has great resources. Social organizations for a plethora of topics. Many resources for students that are free.

Cons

As a graduate student, I have experienced severe mistreatment by research advisor and lab group members. I have heard really bad stories from fellow graduate students too. We are afraid to report our professors' behavior because of the potential impact on our careers. Still, the ombudsman on campus is a safe person to talk to about these things. He seems to have a lot of experience helping graduate students navigate tough situations. Also, it's my understanding that faculty accountability problems are not unique to UC Riverside by any means. However, the faculty code of conduct does not provide strong protection of graduate students from their advisors. More information is available in the Campus Climate Survey online.
