Pros
There are good professional development resources, such as the career center and the Graduate Quantitative Methods Center (GradQuant). The time to graduate student completion is flexible. Depending on your lab you can get a collaborative environment where you can learn and advance your knowledge.
Cons
As other reviewers have stated, accountability for professors is definitely lacking. An average of 70% of the professors do not know how to manage people and their own personal stress. They often do not know how to positively motivate their students and staff, and instead resort to intimidation and insults thinking it will provide the results they want. There is no department that oversees or addresses such issues and eventually this promotes a negative environment among many departments/labs. This also makes it difficult to choose a good mentor. The area around the university is a little boring, if you're willing to drive to LA or the OC then you can get access to better cafes and restaurants.
