      Pros

      Quick PhD and the academic competition is weak.

      Cons

      The trapped in the desert mentality is contagious. Verbal interaction with bosses can get hairy with no means to deal with grievances. Had to see the campus ombudsman to clarify my rights as a grad student. Do not accept verbal abuse in the workplace.

      Great institution serving a diverse student population. Plenty of interesting research labs. Decent benefits.

      Cons

      Commuter school so traffic and parking can be terrible. Select your PI wisely, and ensure healthy work life balance.

      Professors will take credit for your work and overwork you at times.
