Pros
It's a stable job with well-defined requirements. Being an educational institution, there is generally support for professional development in the form of connecting you with more experience people in the same function or other education opportunities.
Cons
Seniority is king, merit is unrewarded, and underperforming employees languish forever in their jobs, wasting resources. Top management is wasteful, unfocused, and unattentive. Tight salary guidelines mean overspending on unproductive employees while failing to attract high-performers. Dominance of part-time low-salary positions among line staffers means the workforce is divided between cushily-paid middle management with decades of experience and low-paid line employees who last about a year or two on average - very few people in between, there is no pipeline of professional development.
