The salary is extremely low for 2016 in Santa Barbara. UCSB prides itself on being the most cost effective of all of the UC campuses. One could make more money at another UC campus doing the same job. Santa Barbara is a very expensive place to live. The workload is enormous and there are no pay increases for doing a great job. The only way to make more money here is to leave your current department, which causes a tremendous turnover rate.
