Pros

If you can get a teaching assistant or associate gig and learn to manage your time, it's not a bad way to get through grad school. Doesn't really pay enough to live well on, but works as a supplemental income and covers insurance costs.

Cons

Doesn't last. Unless you have a guaranteed fellowship, you're looking for a new gig every 6–10 weeks. As an assistant, often others don't appreciate you official "part-time" workload and give you full-time work.
