Pros

Beautiful campus, some great colleagues, interesting art and lecture series staff can attend and very engaging research being done in some disciplines. Moving toward more remote or hybrid work due to high cost and low/no availability of housing. A pension and a 403B are nice.

Cons

Unless you are faculty, or in a union, as a staff member you won't get a raise. You have to get a full reclassification somehow, or an outside offer and use that as leverage for a retention. This brings down morale and burns out staff. Low salaries mean staff can't afford housing in town. Health insurance monthly premium is high, and the medical options in town are very limited. High cost for staff to park on campus. Upper administration dismissive of staff needs. Many homeless or house/food insecure students adds extra stress and burden on staff who act as informal therapists. Very few food options on campus and what is there is exorbitant.
