Pros
In the math department, some students are thoroughly engaged, which can be rewarding. The teaching as an assistant is straightforward (mostly cover techniques for whatever concept and several example problems) and pace is slow enough that preparation each week is quite manageable.
Cons
Very little accountability to incentivize professors to put serious effort into teaching. They can be easily focused on other matters, particularly their research. Also, the pay is terrible, as you'd expect for a graduate student.
