Pros

Excellent retirement benefits, discounted gym membership, and other perks. Once you pass your six months probation period you have significant job security. UCLA is filled with incredibly intelligent staff and there are countless people that are willing to mentor new staff. Thankfully I had a manager that encouraged everyone in our department to focus on professional development and was very accommodating.

Cons

Low pay compared to other organizations. There is no clear way to provide feedback or ideas to upper management. Unions can be difficult to deal with and might not always have your best interest at heart. Other workers may hate working or be bad at their job but they stay and are not fired.

Good hours, flexible to student time schedule, allowed me to do homework on the job

Cons

Sometimes, other students don't take your full shift and leave like 30 mins of your shift if you give it up

Pros

Working with students is satisfying and fulfilling. It also helps yourself retain information you have learned from past courses.

Cons

The Peer Learning Unit is poorly managed, and it is difficult to communicate with your supervisors.
