Pros

Good benefits, the hours are pretty good (although they vary wildly by assignment), the pay has gotten better since the strike

Cons

You will not get teaching assignments based on your career goals even though the goal is supposedly career training. You will not get a job in academia after finishing the PhD, especially in Humanities. The teaching load is heavy which makes it difficult to finish the PhD quickly, extending the amount of time that you will be barely making a living wage

Pros

Meaningful Work Great Colleagues Great Benefits Beautiful Campus

Cons

Pay is low, and grows very slowly Upward mobility is very restricted Upper Administration doesn't seem to value work they don't understand, or employees they don't see, and thus eliminate or consolidate positions or duties in the name of cost cutting and efficiency
