this is the perfect place for older people that just want to do mindless tasks until retirement. For everyone else, this is where your hopes and dreams come to die.
You are punished for working hard and thinking outside the box. It's better to lay low here and do the bare minimum. You working hard means other people have to follow up and work too. Management doesn't like to work.

Promotions are based off of relationships and not work performed. If you see your boss being buddies with someone then chances are you're no where in consideration for a better position. This is how people get stuck in these jobs for decades.
You can apply to hundreds and hundreds of transfers and never get even an interview. I have a degree and plenty of experience but it still hasn't helped.
Lots of time spent doing meaningless nonproductive tasks. If you tell your boss you'd like more work- your coworkers will be upset because you just called out your entire useless department
