Pros

Close to home, great work-life balance after busy season because there's nothing to do. You will get the big picture and see a lot in an audit.

Cons

No work is assigned to you, so even in audit you will do tax work. You'll spend your days hunting for work, and then you volunteer to learn something new and they won't let you. Then you get yelled at for not having more billable hours. You pretty much have to sit at your desk don't talk, and if you have no people skills / willing to bring people down you'll move right up. The office is very toxic and HR is practically useless. They pride themselves on paying overtime, but they give you way below market vacation days. You also have 120 hours baked into your salary of overtime, so you get stuck working 14 hour days in busy season. 6 days in your first year and 9 days in your second year. You spend weeks on end with next to no work because your job is not transactional. They are better off giving 21 vacation days like every other decent firm does and doing away with the banked overtime because you end up getting less days.

Pros

There was a few fun events they held to build a teamwork culture. The onboarding process was easy. The Melville office staff were pretty friendly and welcoming.

Cons

Expectations were never clear. One minute they tell you to work from home if sick, and to work from home on Fridays, next they are saying you don't come in enough, even though I did exactly as told. There is no support whatsoever. Dare you ask questions to make sure youre doing something correctly since it's your first time. There is a senior staff member I worked with on my team that was unprofessional. He would yell at his team members, curse and call people names. He never came into the office and I can't believe he still works there when this company has fired so many people over the past few years. They hire you for the busy season, provide minimum support then let you go in the spring.
