Pros

20-25 days of vacation, free food on occasion, nice office and coffee room and location, provides lots of opportunities for CPE credit

Cons

No flexibility or work-life balance. if you are looking for public accounting, my advice is to go elsewhere, because I'm sure there are plenty of firms out there that actually care about their employess. additionally, their true colors really showed during the covid pandemic and not in a good way. they have made it extremely clear that revenues are their #1 priority. they don't care about their employees health or safety or making people feel comfortable during this time. we were REQUIRED to come back to the office extremely prematurely. and now they are putting employees back in two-person shared offices... while most of the rest of the country is still working from home for the forseeable future, and covid is worse now/just as bad as it was in april/may! they don't even give you the option to work from home or adjust your schedule unless you have a "situation", but that situation can't be that you are just not comfortable being around people for no reason. our job can easily be done at home, and anyone's job that can easily be done at home should be taking advantage of that for the safety of everyone. but no, not at UHY! the options for parents that have to home school their kids are honestly just a joke. instead of UHY just being flexible, parents either have to use up their PTO to stay home with their kids or take a pay cut to do so. every time the CEO sends a firm wide email i wonder if this is all just a sick joke. the longer i stay here the more i realize how greedy and shady the partners/execs are. it is deeply disturbing their blatant disregard for their employees and their families. bottom line, steer very clear of this place if you can avoid working here. company morals and priorities are all out of whack.

Pros

Close to home, great work-life balance after busy season because there's nothing to do. You will get the big picture and see a lot in an audit.

Cons

No work is assigned to you, so even in audit you will do tax work. You'll spend your days hunting for work, and then you volunteer to learn something new and they won't let you. Then you get yelled at for not having more billable hours. You pretty much have to sit at your desk don't talk, and if you have no people skills / willing to bring people down you'll move right up. The office is very toxic and HR is practically useless. They pride themselves on paying overtime, but they give you way below market vacation days. You also have 120 hours baked into your salary of overtime, so you get stuck working 14 hour days in busy season. 6 days in your first year and 9 days in your second year. You spend weeks on end with next to no work because your job is not transactional. They are better off giving 21 vacation days like every other decent firm does and doing away with the banked overtime because you end up getting less days.
