Pros

Freedom to schedule your work Organization seems to care about you

Cons

Not much job satisfaction - you don’t design, create, implement or fix anything. It’s purely auditing and chasing numbers each quarter. You are constantly tracked on multiple lists. Training is excessive, some is redundant and not efficient at getting you up to speed. They will rush you to get the next competency and then the next one after that and so on so as to load more on your plate. This dilutes the quality of your core work, not allowing you to spend the time needed to perform a thorough inspection. While training I watched some auditors spend no more than 20 min. at a site. What the heck can you do in 20 min. other than grab a model number and leave? Some of this is due to the amount of work load assigned and some is just the “get in and get out” mentality to work your side hustle. It is an incredibly complicated company to sort out due to the number and variety of standards and the difficulty in finding what you need to do your job. You’ll spend an inordinate amount of time navigating the company’s systems, which is not a marketable skill elsewhere. Some customer files are massive and convoluted. You can spend hours trying to find the customer’s product in their files and sorting out what you need to inspect while you’re there. Some customers know their files well but most do not. Inspections are unannounced. Interrupting someone’s busy day can make your inspection uncomfortable if not difficult. They were misleading in the interview about my travel distance. It was 2.5 times what I was told. You assume all the risk using your own vehicle for travel. The federal mileage reimbursement has not adjusted enough to reflect the actual increase in fuel, parts, insurance and maintenance costs. Salary and benefits are average for this size company. Nothing to write home about. Corporate communications can be overwhelming at times. They seem proud to tell you it may take a year or more to learn your job, and that the first six or eight months is like drinking from a fire hose. It shouldn’t be this way for that long. You’ll be expected to sell as well. Something not mentioned in the interview. You have to account for and report every 15min. of your time. Overtime is promised in the interview but then you get the email a few months in saying no overtime is allowed unless approved by upper management. It’s not possible to do this job well in 40hrs. per week.

Pros

WFH policy and great coworkers.

Cons

Role eliminated while executives and higher-ups spend ridiculous amounts of money on travel to "conferences", while transitioning the team to all contract/external employees to alleviate "budgeting" costs. Leaders continue to appease to higher-ups and C-level executives without a care or understanding of current team dynamics to protect themselves in a cutthroat and toxic environment filled with corporate politics. 0 growth for internal designers at below market salaries (20-25%) and below average benefits- when mentioned to leaders, profits are increasing YOY, yet the discussion becomes a "let's circle back" while 10+ contractors are immediately brought on board.
