Pros
UMass Boston is often overlooked compared to UMass Amherst, but the professors I encountered at UMass Boston were among the nicest, most dedicated and brilliant people I've ever enountered in my career so far.
Cons
I was explicitly told by colleagues to avoid dealings with the HR dept at all costs. Indeed, whenever I needed anything from them, my emails seemed to fall into a black hole, never responded to, or sometimes responded to and subsequently ignored. The only way to get any movement out of them was to go there in person and nag them. There were maybe 1 or 2 people in HR who could be counted on, and having their contact was like gold. The rest were either incompetent or just didn't care, I'm not sure which. Also, the university has few co.petent admin people in general and does not value them sufficiently. my dept had one admin who actually got anything done, but the dept consistently refused to pay her a competitive salary until she got frustrated and left. now the dept is in chaos
