Pros

If you are starting out and need to obtain experience, there is an excess supply of patients here for you to practice your craft upon. The quality of training is highly variable. You will leave here in one year or three years but you will leave. Your ultimate goal in joining this hospital is to better yourself for the next position where you can negotiate better salary, benefits, etc.

Cons

Since this hospital serves everyone (an admirable virtue), you will experience a small percentage of your patient population that are drug seekers, malingerers, and terribly unappreciative of the care they receive. However, if you keep your eyes set upon that next job, you'll do fine here. Do not ever come to UNMH with the hopes of a long a prosperous career. You will tremendously disappointed.

Pros

The job was fantastic and I very much enjoyed everything we did. The hours were great and it was the perfect distance from my home.

Cons

They waited until 4 days before my probation period was up, and brought me in a room with two supervisors and a random nurse and terminated me because “ I’m not a good fit for the team”. They say my clinical skills are impeccable and no one from the hospital had any complaints about me in any way. A few people decided for me that my personality was too big for their team to handle. That says a lot about management there. I’ve NEVER been terminated in 26 years as a paramedic, but I come to UNM with a big personality and they cannot handle it.
