Pros
Great opportunity to work with the unique community that is New Mexico.
Cons
I applied for a new position that offered lower pay but utilized a skill set that I favored and wanted to return to. Several personal factors influenced this choice, including but not limited to the hospital being a very stressful work environment. I interviewed and patiently waited(a month or so?), allowing myself to cautiously hope the pay would at least be a step or two up as I have 3 more years experience than when I began at UNM Hospital(1 step in pay=1 year). A woman called me from HR and offered me the position and then after waiting several MORE days, she called again and said that my pay would be equal to my current position. I was overjoyed. I asked her if she was sure- and explained why I was surprised. She insisted. I felt a huge sigh of relief that I could start a new job in the ever-important mental health field and retain my current pay rate. THIRTY MINUTES LATER this woman calls back and tells me she was wrong, the pay cut is huge, and I was right all along. The disregard for the experience of the employees and PROSPECTIVE employees is jarring. In the field of healthcare, where we need people to work and be happy working more than ever, it's disheartening to experience this level of ineptitude and disregard for their work.
