Pros
Nurses and techs are great and work very well as a team.
Cons
Management is nitpicky about every little thing. They will write you up at the drop of a hat. If you don't agree with the DON or Director, watch out, they will find a way to intimidate and then fire you. It is a teaching hospital so you are required to take numerous classes that really don't teach anything, just a waste of time. Their benefits are very minimal, you do get paid up medical insurance but only with UNMH and if you need to cover your family, good luck, it's expensive also they don't offer insurance outside of their network unless your willing to pay big bucks for it. They're vacation time is laughable, it's almost non-existent and so is their sick time, they do not offer short-term disability insurance if you need to be off work for medical reasons like major surgery so if you run out of sick or vacation time, well that's just too bad. They do have tuition reimbursement but only to the amount that it takes to go to UNM and they want you to get more education but UNM not willing to provide a fast track to their own nurses, most of the time we have to go outside of UNM for education. The building where I work is old, uncomfortable and ugly, the temperature is either too cold or too hot, nothing works properly and we're expected to pass TJC and DOH inspections even though we never have any money to improve anything.
