Pros
The sky is the limit on paper. Many job opportunities, skills/experience, promotions, etc. If you are willing to trade some of your identity to pacify the fluctuating moods of the leadership you can depart the service with a vast wealth of knowledge / skills and resources.
Cons
In the end you have no rights. Anyone in a position above can destroy your career. It takes to much of an effort to fight back. In the end they move to another position. But the damage is done.
