Pros
As a Soldier in the Army Reserve you will find no job more flexible than working as a Military Technician. You will be able to take paid time off for military training, paid sick leave, paid annual leave, and compensatory time for any time work over the usual 80-hour pay period (2 weeks). Challenging and rewarding work that helps the people you serve with.
Cons
As a military technician you will find yourself stuck with no options for promotion unless you are willing to relocate (civilian) and transfer your unit of assignment (military) because until someone leaves and/or retires there are no job openings. When you are a significantly above-average performer stuck in a position pay grades below a poor performer, this is demoralizing, and there is no legitimate way (due to federal regulations in the general schedule) to remedy the situation.
